Passion to Start a Church
In 1989, Pastor Gary and Kathy packed up all of their belongings and moved to South Florida to begin Calvary Sawgrass. On the way, their moving truck caught fire, destroying all of their earthly possessions. The devastating tragedy did not stop them from pursuing God's calling to begin a church. There was only one way to go... forward! In 1991, the first Bible study was held at their home.

On Easter of 1992, the church had its first public meeting at Central Park Elementary school in Plantation. Over 115 people attended that first Easter service. Out of those 115 that attended, 100 people gave their lives to Christ. The next step of faith occurred in 1996. In just six short weeks, a congregation of about 60 adults meeting in an elementary school raised over $100,000 and completely renovated a dilapidated old warehouse on State Road 84 we now affectionately refer to as "Baghdad." Our church tripled in size and began reaching even more of our world for Christ.

Starting with only $3,000 in the bank, God provided miraculously and over the course of the next three years, the church purchased 10 acres of land and completed a $3 million building project. On Easter weekend 2003, Calvary Sawgrass moved into its current facility and reached over 1,000 people for Christ, the largest attendance up to that date.

20th Anniversary Easter Celebration
This past Easter, Calvary Sawgrass hosted its largest evangelistic event ever. Over 3,500 people attended Easter at the Rodeo Grounds and many gave their lives to Christ. easter
