Therapy Dogs

This pet therapy group is currently forming to minister to different groups of hospitalized children and the elderly.

On April 28, Don and I took our two therapy dogs, Nizhoni (15) and Keira (1) to Coral Gables (the CG High School track field) to participate
in an 8-hour walk-a-thon for the American Cancer Society. There were about a dozen therapy dogs (from Miami-Dade County) and we all constituted a "team".
Both Don and I are cancer survivors, and we walked to honor Don's dad who died of prostate cancer and our 13-year-old toy poodle who died April 27, 2006 of
pancreatic cancer (and she had been a therapy dog). The rule was that at least one member from each team had to be walking at all times for the entire 8 hours....
with the exception of the candle lighting ceremony (and prayer) about 8 p.m. (that lasted about 5 minutes). Then everyone together walked in silence as we
remembered our loved ones.
It was a very moving and important event for us. We were the only ones from Calvary Sawgrass Therapy Dogs who were able to make it to the event.
